There are many reasons why parents may wish to change their baby’s infant or follow-on formula. Babies fed with standard formula can experience various discomforts. Very common issues include constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, or bloating. Other frequent concerns in infancy are respiratory problems or atopic dermatitis (eczema).
Additional reasons may include:
- refusing the milk
- drinking less than the recommended amount
- frequent crying even after feeding
- persistent hunger
- waking up often
- restless sleep
- poor weight gain or growth
Whatever your reason for changing your baby’s formula, we recommend following these guidelines to make the transition as smooth as possible. This will help your little one adjust comfortably and ensure that the new formula is well tolerated and enjoyed.
When Is the Best Time to Change Infant or Follow-On Formula?
Some babies accept a new formula easily, while others need more time to adapt. A slow and gradual transition is ideal. Switching too suddenly may lead to refusal of the new milk.
The best time to begin the change is with the first morning feed, when babies are usually hungry and more willing to accept a new taste.
How Long Does a Formula Transition Take?
Changing your baby’s formula should be as smooth and comfortable as possible. Take your time — the transition usually takes around 8 days, and there are several ways to approach it.
Method 1: Bottle-by-Bottle Transition
(suitable for switching to a formula with different proteins, e.g., from cow’s milk-based formula)
Start by introducing one bottle of GOATTINY® at the first morning feed. Morning introduction reduces the risk of evening discomfort. Replace one bottle per day with GOATTINY®, allowing your baby 6–7 days to adapt.
Schedule:
- Day 1: 1 bottle of GOATTINY®, remaining feeds with the current formula
- Day 2: 2 bottles of GOATTINY®, rest with current formula
- Day 3: 3 bottles of GOATTINY®
- Day 4: 4 bottles of GOATTINY®
- Day 5: 5 bottles of GOATTINY®, 1–2 feeds with current formula
- Days 6–7: Your baby should be comfortably accepting the new goat milk formula
Method 2: Gradual Mixing in the Bottle
(Also suitable when transitioning from Stage 1 to Stage 2, or from Stage 2 to Stage 3)
- Day 1: Original formula only
- Days 2–3: 75% original formula + 25% GOATTINY®
- Days 4–5: 50% original formula + 50% GOATTINY®
- Days 6–7: 25% original formula + 75% GOATTINY®
- Day 8: 100% GOATTINY®
Apply this method to all daytime and nighttime feeds.
What Makes GOATTINY® Different and special?
Our infant, follow-on, and toddler formulas are produced in the Czech Republic from whole goat’s milk, with no cow’s milk ingredients. This is especially beneficial for babies predisposed to allergies or eczema.
Benefits of Goat Milk in GOATTINY®:
- Proteins: The protein profile of goat’s milk is closer to breast milk. Goat milk proteins are easy and fast to digest — similar to breast milk proteins.
- Low Allergenic Load: Goat’s milk naturally contains a low level of alpha-S1 casein, making it suitable for babies with predispositions to certain allergies or atopic eczema.
- Fats: The fat in goat’s milk contains small fat globules that resemble the size and distribution of fat in breast milk, making it easier to digest.
- Highly Absorbable Minerals: Goat milk is naturally rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
- Valuable Nucleotides: Naturally high levels of bioactive components that support immunity.
- High Content of Galacto-oligosaccharides: Supports healthy gut microbiota.
